9- شرح قاعدة Used To
فعل Use له العديد من الاستخدامات في اللغة الإنجليزية و المعنى الحرفي له ” استعمال ، استخدام ، عامل ، فائدة ، نفع ” و الكثير من المعاني الأخرى التي تختلف باختلاف استخدام هذا الفعل و لكن في قاعدة Used To فأنها تعني عادة ما ، يوجد العديد من القواعد في اللغة الإنجليزية التي يجب دراستها بإتقان حتى تتمكن من التحديث بسلاسة لهذه اللغة ، و اليوم دعونا نتعرف على شرح كامل لقاعدة Used To .
تكوين قاعدة Used To
used to هي فعل ماضي يتم اضافة خلفة المصدر مباشرة و لابد ان تبدأ الجملة بالفاعل عاقل ” I , He , She ” و ذلك لان الغير عاقل لا يدخل هذه القاعدة .
استخدامات قاعدة Used To
نقوم باستعمال مقطع ” Used To ” داخل الجملة التي تريد قولها ، اذا كنا نرغب في التعبير عن شيء ما اعتدنا ان نقوم به في الماضي و لكننا اصبحنا في الوقت الحاضر لا نقوم به ، و هذا يعني انك – في غالب الامر – لن تضطر لإخبار الشخص الاخر انك توقفت عن فعل هذا الامر و انك كنت تمارسه فقط في الماضي و لكن يكفي ان تضع المقطع ” Used To ” ليدل على ذلك .

السؤال بقاعدة Used To
هنا الغرض من السؤال هو الاستفسار عن اذا كان هناك فعل معين كنت تقوم به في الماضي اي كان عادة لديك ثم توقف في الوقت الحالي و لذلك فان تكوين السؤال بهذه القاعدة يأتي على النحو التالي ” Did هل + الفاعل + Used To + الفعل في المصدر ؟ ”

قاعدة Used To للتعبير عن الوقت الحالي Be Used To
كما ذكرنا في النقاط السابقة ان قاعدة Used To تأتي فقط للتعبير عن عادة كنت تقوم بها في الماضي و لكن ماذا ان كنت تريد التعبير عن عادة تقوم بها في الوقت الحالي ، هنا يتم التحول الى قاعدة Be Used To اذا كانت العادة القديمة مازالت مستمرة معك في الوقت الحالي او انك اكتسبت عادة جديدة و تمارسها ايضا في الوقت الحالي .
تكوين جملة Be Used To
لكي تكون جملة صحيحة من هذه القاعدة عليك ان تضيف في اول الجملة الفاعل و الذي لابد ان يكون عاقل ثم تقوم بإضافة الفعل المساعد Be ثم تقوم بإضافة مقطع ” Used To ” ثم تقوم بإضافة الفعل الحالي و للتعبير عن استمرارية الفعل لابد من اضافة ing مع الفعل .

الحديث اليوم عن قاعدة used to في اللغة الإنجليزية، وتوضيح الفرق بين use, used, used to وهى واحدة من أهم القواعد في اللغة الإنجليزية، التي يجب أن يكون على معرفة جيدة بها سواء للمبتدئين أو المهتمين بتعلم الإنجليزية، والسؤال الذى يدور في أذهان الكثير عن طبيعة الفرق بينهم، نظرا للتشابه الكبير بينهم، فجمعيهم يعبرون عن عادة، لكن قد تختلف هذه العادة فقد تكون عادة مستمرة أم تم الإقلاع عنها أم سأعتاد عليها.
وهذا ما سيتم توضحيه بإذن الله تعالى في هذه المقالة، حتى يكون الآمر أكثر سهولة ونستطيع استخدام كل منهم بالطريقة الصحيحة.
Use and used
في البداية سيتم التحدث عن use, used بدون أي إضافات عليها مثل get, be, to
ونرى أن كلمة use يمكن أن تستخدم كفعل (verb)بمعنى يستخدم أو يستعمل، ويتم التعامل معها مثل باقي الأفعال من ناحية التصريف.

| استخدمت الكمبيوتر في العمل | .I used the computer at work | الماضي البسيط |
| قد استخدمت الكمبيوتر في العمل | .I had used the computer at work | الماضي التام |
وقد تستخدم أيضا كاسم (noun) وتكون بمعنى استخدام أو استعمال.
ونجد عند استخدام use كاسم قد تأتى أكثر معنى وهذا الاختلاف يأتي تبعا لموقعها في الجملة
| الكهرباء لها استخدامات عديدة | .Electricity has many uses |
| هو عديم الفائدة بالنسبة لي | .he’s no use to me |
استخدام used to
وهنا نجد أن المعنى يتغير تماما عند إضافة حرف الجر to إلى كلمة used وبهذه الإضافة يتغير المعنى من استخدم إلى اعتاد على، ويتم استخدام (used to) في اللغة الإنجليزية مع زمن الماضي البسيط past simple بإستثناء لو بعد فعل مساعد مثل Did مثلا تأتى في المصدر نستخدم use to
ويتمثل استخدام used to عند التعبير عن شيء تم الاعتياد عليه في الماضي لكن الآن تم التوقف عن فعله في الزمن الحاضر.
لوصف الماضي
Used to + inf
.I used to play football a lot, in the past
انا اعتدت لعب كرة القدم كثيراً في الماضي.
.He used to eat in the street when he was young
إنه اعتاد على ان يأكل في الشارع عندما كان صغيراً
.I used to run 2 kilometers everyday
أنا اعتدت أن أجري 2 كيلومترات كل يوم
لاحظ أن في الأمثلة السابقة ان وصف الأفعال التي اعتاد القيام بها في الماضي (الاكل في الشارع ولعب كرة القدم والجري) انهما لم يستمرو حتى وقتنا الحاضر، لكن هي لفترة من الماضي وتم التوقف عنها في الوقت الحاضر.
عند النفى
وتكون صيغته didn’t use to + inf = used not to + inf
لم أكن لأستيقظ في وقت متأخر عندما كنت تلميذاً .I didn’t use to get up late when I was pupil
.I used not to get up late when I was a pupil
لم تكن تصدقني .She didn’t use to believe me
لم يعتاد أحمد الذهاب إلى النادي .Ahmad didn’t use to going to club
عند السؤال Question
وتكون الصيغة كالاتي عند السؤال Did + use to + inf
?Did you use to eat many sweets when you were a child
هل كنت معتاد على تناول العديد من الحلويات عندما كنت طفلا؟
?Did you use to watch a lot of TV
هل كنت معتادا على مشاهدة التلفاز كثيرا؟
استخدام be used to
وفى هذه الحالة تعبر على فعل مألوف لديك وتقوم بفعله حتى وقتنا الحاضر.
ويتكون من be used to + (v+ing) or (noun)
| اعتاد أن يكون لطيفاً او هو معتاد أن يكون لطيفاً (حتى الآن) | .He is used to being nice |
| اعتاد أن يقود سيارتي | .He used to drive my car |
| اعتدت أن أعيش وحدي | .I am used to living alone |
| اعتاد أن يقود سيارتي | .He is used to driving my car |
استخدام get used to
نجد أن استخدام be used to لدلالة على أنه في مرحلة الاعتياد أو التأقلم على فعل أو شئ أو موقف معين
Example:
.I get used to playing tennis
المقصود في المثال السابق (أنا بتعود على لعب التنس) وهذا يعنى إنني لم أكن العبه من قبل، لكن مرحلة التعود على اللعب.
وقد يختلف هذا المعنى باختلاف الأزمنة المستخدمة في الجملة.
وإذا ما نظرنا إلى الأزمنة التي تأتى مع get used to فهي كالآتي:
زمن المستقبل البسيط (will get used to)
زمن الماضي البسيط (got used to)
زمن المضارع المستمر (be getting used to)
I will get used to playing tennis
أنا راح اتعود على لعب كرة السلة (هذا يعني انا لست متعود على لعب التنس ولم ادخل في مرحلة التعود لكن سأدخل هذه المرحلة في المستقبل – لعب التنس هو شيء جديدة بالنسبة لي سأتعود عليها)
I am getting used to playing tennis
أنا بتعود (الان) على لعب التنس (يعني انا الان في مرحلة التعود على لعب كرة السلة لكن لم اتعود عليها بعد – لدى وقت حتى اتعود على اللعبة الجديدة.
I got used to playing handball
انا تعودت او تأقلمت على لعب كرة اليد – يعني انا انتهيت من مرحلة التعود او التأقلم الان وصرت متعود عليها، وباستخدام got used to في زمن الماضي البسيط تعادل be used to
أي يمكننا قول
I am used to playing handball = I got used to playing handball
ويمكننا تلخيص ما سبق من خلال ثلاثة امثلة
I used to wake up early
في هذا المثال يوضح أنه كان معتاد على الاستيقاظ مبكرا، أما الآن أصبح يستيقظ متأخرا (دلاله على فعل كان يقوم به في الماضي وتم التوقف عنه في الوقت الحاضر).
I am used to waking up early
اما في هذا المثال يوضح أنه يقوم بالاستيقاظ مبكرا في الوقت الحاضر أي فعل ملازم لك وتقوم به باستمرار حتى الوقت الحالي.
I am getting used to waking up early
اما عن هذا المثال فإنه في مرحلة التعود على الاستيقاظ مبكراً لأي سبب ما، وبالتالي ذل ك يعنى ان هذا الفعل لم افعله من قبل، لكن هناك محاولة للقيام به.

Used To Do / Would Do / Be Used To Doing
‘Used to + infinitiv
We use this expression to talk about habits or repeated actions in the past which we don’t do in the present. We also use it to talk about states in the past which are no longer true. For example
I used to have long hair (but now I have short hair)
He used to smoke (but now he doesn’t smoke)
They used to live in India (but now they live in Germany)
Watch out! With the negative and the question it’s ‘use’ and not ‘used’
?Did you use to be a teacher
?Did he use to study French
She didn’t use to like chocolate, but she does now
I didn’t use to want to have a nice house
Note! With this ‘used to’ there is no verb ‘be’. We CAN’T say ‘I am used to have long hair
‘Would + infinitive
We can also use ‘would + infinitive’ to talk about a habit or repeated action in the past. We usually use ‘would + infinitive’ in this way when we’re telling a story about the past. So, we can say
When I was a student, we would often have a drink after class on a Friday
When I lived in Italy, we would go to a little restaurant near our house
However, we don’t use ‘would + infinitive’ to talk about states in the past. So, if we’re talking about the past, we CAN’T say
I would have long hair.
I would live in Scotland.
‘Be used to
We use ‘be used to + verb-ing’ to talk about things which feel normal for us or things that we are accustomed to
I’m used to getting up early, so I don’t mind doing it (= getting up early is normal for me, it’s what I usually do)
My little daughter is used to eating lunch at noon. So she was grumpy yesterday when we didn’t eat until one
Note that we make the negative or the question with the verb ‘be’ in the normal way. The ‘used to’ doesn’t change
Lucy isn’t used to staying up late, so she’s very tired today
?Are your children used to walking a lot
We can also use ‘be used to + noun’, which has the same meaning
I’ve lived in the UK almost all my life, so I’m used to rain (= rain is normal for me)
That football team always lose, so they’re used to disappointment
We can put the verb ‘be’ into any tense. So we can talk about things in the past or the future as well as the present using this expression
It was difficult when I first started university, because I wasn’t used to the amount of work we had to do
Soon I’ll be used to driving in London and I won’t be so frightened
We can use ‘get used to + verb-ing’ to talk about the change of not normal to normal. We can also use this in any tense
Don’t worry if your new job is hard at first. You’ll get used to it
It took me a while, but I got used to speaking another language every day
It took me a few months to get used to living in Japan. At first everything seemed very different, but then
gradually it became normal for me
You probably know what the word “use” means in English

However, the word “used” is used in an expression that has two entirely different meanings, and both are very common in English
Let’s look at them more closely
The Use of Used to When Speaking about Past Habits
Used to is often used to refer to past habits and to emphasize the difference between the past and the present
I used to hate spinach. But now I can eat it
When we used the phrase used to to talk about a past habit, the entire expression can be reworded like this, using the word “anymore”:
I used to hate spinach. = I do not hate spinach anymore
Notice that if the sentence is a question or if it contains a negative expression (using the word did or didn’t when speaking about the past), then instead of saying used to, say use to + infinitive
Where did you use to buy your food
I didn’t use to do gymnastics
Used to Can Mean “Accustomed To
To be used to something means to be accustomed to something or to feel comfortable in a particular situation
Again, as an example, I eat spinach every day; it’s entirely normal for me. It’s a daily occurrence. In such a situation, I can say
I am used to spinach
Then our construction would be like this
[The subject doing the action + the verb be (conjugated according to the subject) + used to + noun.]
To ask a question, we just change the order of the words in the sentence
? Are you used to spinach
Notice that a gerund (verb + -ing) can also be used as a noun
I am used to washing dishes
*As a noun that indicates action
Very often the phrase used to is used with the word get to mean “become accustomed to
I am getting used to spinach. This means that I did not like spinach in the past, but now I am starting to like it and it is becoming normal for me to eat it
I got used to the taste of spinach. This means that I did not like spinach in the past, but now I like it and have no problem eating it
Are you getting used to the taste of spinach? Are you becoming accustomed to the taste of spinach
I can’t get used to the taste of spinach. I have tried to like spinach, but I still don’t like it and probably never will
?How Can You Identify the Meaning of the Phrase Used to
To identify the correct meaning of the phrase, you must look at the context
If, after used to, you see a noun or gerund (a word that ends in –ing), then the meaning is “be accustomed to
If used to is followed by a verb, then it is about a past habit
When I was young and lived with my parents, I used to help them a little bit with baking and cooking
I wasn’t used to walking in high heels at the time
Jordan is used to me trying new things in cooking
